2025 LME Practical Seminar Focuses on Green Metals and Low-Carbon Trends

The “2025 LME Practical Seminar,” hosted by the CNFA and co-organized by Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd. (TIPC), was held on November 18 at the Regent Taipei. The event brought together representatives from the London Metal Exchange (LME), TIPC, the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC), as well as members of the metals and futures industries. More than 110 participants attended, including distinguished guests such as Joey Cheng, Director of the Futures Trading Division at the SFB, and Chien-Lung Chou, CEO of the TAIFEX.

In the keynote session, Jason Yeh, Supervisor of TIPC Kaohsiung Branch, presented an overview of LME-related operations and TIPC’s vision for low-carbon port development. MIRDC Industrial Analyst Sherry Hsueh provided insights into trends within the copper industry and the development of recycled copper. LME Vice President of Business Development, Catherine Zhang, shared the exchange’s initiatives to promote market sustainability amid the global green transition.

The panel discussion focused on how the futures industry can better support the real economy in the context of metal decarbonization, moderated by Alex Chou, Convener of Board of Supervisors of the CNFA. The session featured speakers including Howard Yang, Assistant Manager of KGI Futures; Yunson Pan, Senior Manager of Yuanta Securities Investment Trust’s Futures Trust Department; and Betty Liao, Deputy General Manager of Lianyou Metals Co.,Ltd.

As ESG and sustainable finance increasingly become global norms, futures firms are not only providers of hedging and financial solutions, but are also positioned to play a pivotal role in supporting industrial transformation. CNFA will continue to serve as a bridge for policy dialogue and international engagement, fostering collaboration between financial markets and industry while contributing to net-zero goals and broader industrial upgrading.
